Tara Hagle is a baroque and modern violinist currently pursuing a Master’s degree in baroque violin at the Juilliard School’s Historical Performance program, where she studies with Cynthia Roberts and Elizabeth Blumenstock. Tara completed her BM in Violin Performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston, and was awarded both the George Whitfield Chadwick Medal and the Award for Excellence in the Liberal Arts. While at NEC, she studied violin with Ayano Ninomiya, and baroque violin with Adriane Post, and in addition to her musical studies, completed both a minor in Liberal Arts and Teaching Artistry (Music Education).
While at NEC, Tara fostered her love for community engagement as a longtime fellow of the Community Partnerships in Performance program, where she designed and performed interactive chamber music programs for audiences spanning schools, senior living facilities, and community spaces throughout the Boston area. Tara also brought her love for early music to the musical scene at NEC, co-founding and leading NEC’s first and only student-led baroque ensemble on period instruments. In addition to early music, Tara enjoys new music, and has played and premiered works by friends, colleagues, and mentors.
Tara was a recipient of a 2026 Early Music America Workshop Scholarship, and has spent past summers at the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Intensive, and as an apprentice at the Valley of the Moon Festival. She has also attended the Academie du Domaine Forget solo and chamber intensives, and Bowdoin International Music Festival. Tara has also participated in masterclasses with Nancy Zhou, Cynthia Miller-Freivogel, Arnold Steinhardt, Vadim Gluzman, Ani Kavafian, and Rachel Barton-Pine, among others.
Tara has most recently appeared in concert as member of the Charlotte Bach Festival Orchestra (Charlotte, NC), The Bach Project Boston, and in concerts of chamber music with musicians of the Handel and Haydn Society, as well as at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in a recital with Rachel Barton Pine. Tara has also appeared numerous times on Chicago area classical radio station, WFMT, as well as Boston area radio station Classical WCRB.
Originally from the Chicago area, Tara was a merit scholarship fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy in Evanston, IL, where she studied with Almita Vamos and Davis King, and she got her start at the Merit School of Music in Chicago, where she studied with Erica Carpenedo.
When not playing the violin, Tara enjoys writing poetry, reading widely, and going on long walks and runs around whatever city she happens to be in at the moment.
Tara plays on a 1755 Louis Guersan violin generously provided by a scholarship grant from the Virtu Foundation.
